Capbreton was originally a small fishing port, a shelter for whalers preparing to take to the ocean and follow their prey down as far as Terre-Neuve.
The marina tradition is kept alive today thanks to its attractive fishing port, the only one on the Landaise coast, its fish market, held regularly along the quays, and the hundreds of pleasure boats that moor up at Capbreton port.
Situated between Landaise woodland and the Atlantic Ocean, Capbreton lends itself naturally to the tourism industry. This pleasant, welcoming, and family-friendly seaside resort combines all the pleasures of beach life with a wide variety of nature activities that have slowly developed in the surrounding area and are largely oriented around the forest and the sea.
Whatever the season, restaurants and boutiques liven up the town centre and the seafront, situated by the town’s main casino.
As an addition to your stay in the town, we recommend checking out: • The marina town of Capbreton and its pleasure and fishing port. A number of reputed surfing spots • Nature reserves: the Marais d’Orx wetlands, Hossegor marine lake, the Etang Noir reserves, the Courant d’Huchet river, which can be explored by boat, the surrounding Landaise farms, and the culinary delights of the Pays de Chalosse • The Pays Basque : Bayonne, Biarritz, backcountry villages, La Rhune, Spain • Bike paths and ATT circuits • 1km away in Capbreton: seafront casino, forest and beach horse-riding, quad riding, go-karting, ocean sailing trips, Basque Pelote • Golf at Seignosse, just 8km away
